Environmental Assessments
Initial Assessment Details

The Murray Project required both a provincial and a federal environmental assessment. HD Mining submitted its Application for an Environmental Assessment Certificate (EAC Application) / Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to the BC Environmental Assessment Office (BE EAO) and Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) in December 2014.

HD Mining received its Environmental Assessment Certificate #M15-03 (EAC) under the 2002 Environmental Assessment Act from the EAO on October 1, 2015, and a Decision Statement (DS) under the 2012 Canadian Environmental Assessment Act by the CEAA on December 13, 2017.

Certificate Extension and Ongoing Compliance

In addition to the initial approval, the Environmental Assessment Certificate (#M15-03) was amended on March 23, 2018 to add Project components in the coal processing site and shaft site. HD Mining successfully secured an extension for the EAC in response to evolving project needs and extended timelines on July 14, 2020, and the EAC expiry date was extended to October 1, 2025.

This extension ensures continued compliance with environmental standards and allows for necessary adjustments in project execution. For more details on our certificate and ongoing environmental commitments, please visit the BC Environmental Assessment Office website or our EAC certificate.
